The plant Dalmatian pyrethrum (Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium Vis.) is certainly one of the oldest and the most effective natural insecticides. Pyrethrum extract's quick action as contact nervous toxin on insects, without any harmful effect on warm-blooded animals and humans, along with the fact that it is biodegradable and can therefore break down into non-toxic products, and the impossibility of residual accumulation in living organisms, make pyrethrum and its derivatives an almost ideal insecticide.

The "Bioaromatica" company extracts active components from pyrethrum flower heads and turns them into appropriate insecticide products. In addition, through a project funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Croatia, "Bioaromatica" is making an effort to renew the cultivation and processing of this plant, whose cultivation in Dalmatia reached 900 tons per year at the beginning of the century, while only a couple of hundreds of kilograms of dry flowers are collected in this area today.
